Dear Students,

ASIC would like to call your attention to the following:

·       AGORA
·       Science Open Day
·       Volunteers Needed

·       AGORA

On Wednesday 1 October, ASIC will hold its first Agora in the Auditorium at 20.00. This is an opportunity for students to come, hear about the annual projects of ASIC, listen to the priorities of the Dean, Managing Director, and the Student Life Officer, and most importantly, give feedback. This event is held so the students can speak their opinions and be involved in the progression our University is going through. Topics include the creation of more lounge areas on campus, concrete community service opportunity, and much more.

·       Science Department Open Day

We would like to invite you all to the Science Department Open Day:
When: Wednesday October 1st, 13.00 - 17.00
Where: Newton
Who: All Science Fellows, Science Tutors, science student assistants and you!
All offices will be open! You can walk in with any questions you might have,
for instance:
- What courses / tracks suit my interests?
- Which courses should I take to prepare best for a particular master program?
- How do I plan a research project within Science?
- What are my options after UC?
- … anything else that is on your mind

Ask anyone you see, and you will be referred to the right person to answer your
question. All comments, questions and problems are welcome. Or if you just want to see a
face, that is fine too. Hope to see you all there!

Women and children don’t belong on the street

Due to the current alien policy many women are not recognized as refugee. They are unable to attain a residence permit or suddenly loose it, forcing them to end up on the street. In many cases, these women have nowhere to go and, while having to search for a place to live and work, also have to care for their children. The women are prone to violence. The children are vulnerable and often end up damaged.

A peaceful period of time, in which a place to live, healthcare and education are provided, is essential for these women and children. Only then they can make plans for their future, attain self-sustainability and re-enter legality.

Fanga Musow is looking for motivated volunteers who are interested in working with and organizing activities for these women. Interested? www.fangamusow.nl or email f.vanzeijl@students.uu.nl
If you have any comments, suggestions, or need some help, drop by during office hours, daily afternoons from 12:00 to 13:30 and evenings from 17:30 to 19:00. And don’t forget to check out our website www.ucstudents.nl for practical info, interactive polling and the weekly Dining Hall menu.
Kind regards,
ASIC
