Dear students,
First of all, a very warm welcome (back) to our lovely campus! We hope that the coming Spring semester will be even better than last Fall, with great BBQ-y weather, awesome parties, more wireless internet on campus, better Dining Hall food, even greater teachers and the most interesting courses you’ve ever had. As ASIC we will as always try our best to help you out in times of need. So, prepare yourself for functioning ASICles, a new foosball table, a start in creating the Dining Hall Lounge, smoother ASIC book sales than ever, many academic proposals to improve your studying life, and much, much more.
To start off the new semester, the All Students Interest Council would like to call your attention to the following:
· What is ASIC? (For the new students and everyone who for some reason forgot)
· Dining Hall in Introweek
· Booksales
· Old Asicles and Asibakes for sale!
What is ASIC? (For the new students and everyone who for some reason forgot)
ASIC is the All Students Interest Council and as such, we represent your interests in all academic and residential issues you can think off. We bridge the gap between you, the students, and College Hall when it comes to academic issues such as the quality of your courses and professors, graduation requirements, language tests, class attendance and academic rules and regulations. As the main representatives of the student body we take seats in the College Council and College Board and have an important vote on all academic issues. Also, we work on residential issues such as creating and maintaining student lounges, improving Dining Hall’s menu and structure, opening the Meditation Room for all to use, and getting wireless internet on campus. Lastly, we have adopted some other services; we for example organize semesterly book sales and rent out bikes, vacuums and ovens for you to borrow.
Dining Hall hours
From the first day of Introweek onwards, our beloved Dining Hall will open its doors again for another nutritious, delicious semester. Due to Introweek activities, Dining Hall will provide brunch (10:30 – 12:00) and dinner (17:30 – 19:00). You can check out the menu on our website!
Booksales
Like every semester, ASIC has organized book sales to provide you with the books you need for your courses. Attached to this weeks ASIC Informs, you can find the booklist for the coming semester. There’s two ways in which you can purchase your books through us:
1. order them online through www.ucstudents.nl > Booksales. The website will be online for ordering tomorrow!
2. buy them ‘live’ at the book sales downstairs in Dining Hall from Thursday onwards.
More information on how to order and when to stand in line in Dining Hall will follow tomorrow.
Old Asicles and Asibakes for sale!
We’ve decided to sell some of our beloved services so as to improve the overall quality of our rental services. Instead of selling them online, we give you all the chance to purchase a retired red Asicle of your own! So, if you are interested in buying one of the three available Asicles (prices ranging from 40 – 70 euros) or a small grilling oven (5 euros), come by our office from tomorrow eve onwards and we’ll see what we can work out.
Lastly, we’d like to stress that if you have any comments, suggestions, or need some help, drop by our office this week: we should be there most of the time this week working on bikes and/or books. You can also simply send us an email (asic@uu.nl)! Don’t forget to check out our website www.ucstudents.nl for our new poll, practical info, and the weekly Dining Hall menu.
