The Project
The UCU-ANGLIA Project serves the need of local high school students from the nearby community. UC students are given the opportunity to gain experience in teaching English at a low thresh hold. The pupils you’d be teaching have diverse cultural backgrounds and have relatively marginal socio-economic position. The high school partner we have has to nearby locations -respectively 15 and 5 minutes by bike- and is in need of extra help. The idea is teaching English as a communicative language, which means we are not striving for perfect grammar, but rather we aim at enhancing students experience of the English language. As relatively young student you have a comparative advantage to make the children enjoy English and emancipate them to teaching it as a second language. This has been a great learning experience for the organization and the students. Next year, the project will continue. By then the fine-tuning will be done and a first generation of teachers will be ready to share their experience with the second. So if you are interested in joining in September 2009, send us an e-mail (ucu.volunteer@gmail.com). For more info on the Anglia Netwerk, click here.
