Refugee Work Utrecht

Refugee Work Utrecht (Vluchtelingen Werk Utrecht)

The project in general
In
2001 laws changed in the Netherlands and many refugees finally got
their residence permits (pardonvergunning). Vluchtelingen-werk Utrecht
aims at helping those refugees integrate into the Dutch Society.
Vluchtelingenwerk
Utrecht is looking for students that are interested in helping with
administrative tasks, such as filling medical/insurance forms. 8 hours
per week/min. 1 year. At least Wednesday morning from 9 to 11. Training
sessions offered.

Specific Projects
MensenBieb (the human-library)
The
human-library is a “library” full of “living books”: people with
interesting life stories. In these intercultural libraries, people with
different backgrounds are able to share life experiences and talk about
their cultures. These events are organised a few times a year.
Do
you think it is important that people with different backgrounds and
cultures get to chance to meet each other? Are you curious and do you
enjoy listening? Than the MensenBieb is looking for you! We need
volunteers that help organising the events, listen to the stories of
the visitors and can talk about their lives. Training offered. Only a
few times a year.

Language-coaching (only for Dutch speaking volunteers)
One
of the most important parts of integrating into a new society is
acquiring the language. This project is focussed on putting language
into practice. Furthermore, the contact with the Dutch volunteer can
help the immigrants to feel more at home in the Dutch society/Utrecht.
Anyone that speaks Dutch can get involved in this project. 2 hours per week. Training sessions offered.

Intercultural Teahouse
The
Intercultural Teahouse is an international meeting place in Utrecht
where people with many different backgrounds meet. Every week it has a
very diverse program with different intercultural performances and
activities. More information on their website:
