Who we are

ASIC is run by a team of 5 young minds with high ideals and revolutionary souls, each unique in their own way. Here we are:

Chair: Niels Brants

Nationality: Dutch

Function: As Chair I carry overall responsibility for the operations of ASIC, which basically means I have to keep everybody in the board happy and motivated. I also represent ASIC in all the important issues that are discussed with the administration regarding the aspects of our wonderful student life here at UCU.

Major: Pre-med + minors in History and Psychology

Year: 3rd year

Loves: A cold beer after a hard-day’s work, traveling, meeting new people, his narcissism.

Vice-Chair: Irina Toma

Nationality: Romanian

Function: As a Vice-Chair I support the Chair but I also have a number of personal projects which I am trying to develop in collaboration with College Hall, like creating a masters database and enlarging the student employment opportunities on campus. I am also supervising the activity of the Community Service Team.

Major: Social Science, Minor in Humanities (Chinese Studies)

Year: 3rd year

About me: I am a hard-working hippie trying to save the world. I am in love with life and all the new experiences it has to offer, so I like doing something interesting every week. You can find me dancing the night away, backpacking to a random place, cooking something interesting, taking pictures, listening to music, or watching weird movies.

Secretary: Berend J. Booms

Nationality: Dutch

Function: Secretary and Treasurer, in charge of Book Sales and keeping ASIC organized

Major: Humanities, with a minor in Psychology

Year: 3rd year

About me: Likes UCU campus for all it has to offer; drunk nights in the bar, smoking joints on the quad, fun classes and even more fun people. Has many addictions, some more healthy than others, most notable of these are music, reading, drinking, smoking, sleeping and of course, studying very hard…

Academic Advisor: Mischa Schirris

Nationality: Dutch

Function: Academic Advisor which means I’m responsible for giving College Hall the students’ point of view on academic matters. I’m also there to help you out with any questions or issues you might have with courses or other academic issues (no helping out with your homework though! :P)

Major: Science + Social Science

Year: 3rd year

Loves: Chilling, hanging out, partying in the bar. Likes a good discussion once in a while, but don’t tell anyone that!

Executive Officer: Kees Jan Bernard Oude Lenferink

Function: Executive Officer, and thus the main student representative when it comes to Dining Hall, academic buildings, lounges, and residential issues. Moreover, ASIC’s ‘Jack of alltrades, master of none’.

Nationality: de facto Twents - de jure Dutch

Major: Interdepartmental SSC / SCI (geography, economics, and earth & environment)

Year: 3rd

About me: An oak with its roots deep down in Dutch culture, yet with its leaves stretching up into the international sky. Favorite pastimes include playing guitar, practicing photography and making bike tours through the region.
